Today on the BRAND new you show, we welcomed our very first guest, Tim Saumier, President, and CEO of Tyges International.

Tyges is an executive search firm that specializes in Manufacturing and Healthcare placements.

Prior to establishing Tyges, Tim worked for Philips, Moen, and John Deere, He held various positions of increasing responsibility in manufacturing such as Master scheduler, Logistics and supply chain manager, as well as change and program management.

Now at the helm of Tyges, Tim is on a mission to reinvent recruiting with resolve because as Tim see’s it, Everything about recruiting must change.

What specifically needs to change you may ask? We tackle that question and much more in this episode.

Main Questions

This is the heart of the interview. Tim provides so much value here, you may need to listen twice. Here are the highlights.

We get started with Tim providing his insight on what has changed in the recruiting process with both companies and job seekers since the Great recession.

To sum, recruiting is becoming more about the individual than the company itself. If you are a job seeker you are definitely going to relate to Tim’s answers in this section.

How much do you conduct on job seeker BEFORE you contact them?

Find out Tim’s viewpoint on both referrals and the use of social media in Tyges’ recruiting process. You’ll learn what Tim is looking for the online and you might just be surprised at his answers that include a couple of great examples of what not to do.

Do job seekers need a career plan?

Tim is big on seeing job seekers that know what they want and where they want to go. This only happens with a concerted and thoughtful effort on the job seeker's part. Included in every career plan you should consider whether or not you want to become a specialist or maintain a broader viewpoint of business.

Tim discusses when it’s better to be a niche player vs. a job seeker with a broader set of business skills and experiences.

What should a job seeker look for in the recruiter?

Look for recruiters in your area of interest, that you can trust and, if possible, someone who is known in the space.

Tim tells us why we should stay away from generalists as well as who recruiters really work for. If they don't have a prep and debrief process, you might want to stay away.

The Interview Process

Has it been awhile since the last time you interviewed?

Tim offers his advice on what to do, what not to do and tells us when the interview actually starts. Just like real estate and location, location, location when interviewing you need preparation, preparation, preparation. Tim also discusses the 3 steps of the interview process as well as the one thing he wishes every candidate knew or considered before walking into an interview. You'll also learn how to properly close out the interview.

Side note here: Tim drops some big value bombs in this section that can be used and applied by every job seeker. You may need to listen twice.

How should you answer the “Tell me about yourself question”.

Ever wonder what you should say and how long you should take to answer this question? Tim answers both and provides his answer to this question as a fantastic example.

What is the top mistake that job seekers make during the actual interview?

If you don’t take the answer to this question seriously you might have a problem.
